It actually is! Sometimes simple and straightforward is better cause if you can't anticipate it then the enemy will most likely not either. The strategy was to abandon Shin and break through to meet with Ou hon and the rest since the main objective is the enemy great general's base. The rest of these fights don't contribute much to the greater plan. They are just skirmishes to create this opportunity. You should watch red cliff.

He was though! There was a high probability he was going to have to fight out of the encirclement so that's why he never let anyone in on the planned reinforcements. If you read the manga Xin told ten to do what she must even if he was abandoned in the midst of that brutal fight. Cause the reinforcements were likely not guaranteed to make it in time and he was going to have to fight his way out alone once that happened. The anime minimizes the danger involved in this strategy. It was a gamble with Xin's life and his men on the line. Lije I said you should watch red cliff cause this strategy is replicated almost exactly from the movie.

The fight animation is garbage, they first encounter has better animation fight than this piece of garbage !!
